NEDA introduces herself with the excellent debut single ‘Good Intentions’. The London-based artist kicks off her career with a song all about knowing your worth. Being defiant in the face of fear, she sticks to her guns and is willing to walk away if those needs aren’t met. It’s a bold strategy, Cotton, especially in relationships, but it’s one that pays off with a cracking way to announce yourself arrival in music.
With a diverse set of influences from the likes of No Doubt all the way to the 60s Country scene in Roy Orbison, NEDA uses this range to create a big impact. The instrumental stamps its mark on the ears with guitars and drums coming together to add some power to the mix, really grabbing your attention from the beginning. It has a real dramatic sound to it, maintaining its defiance before falling into melancholy throughout, incorporating those Country and Pop elements to stick at the forefront of your mind.
“‘Good Intentions’ is about knowing what you want from someone and being prepared to walk away if those feelings aren’t being reciprocated. In the midst of writing this song I learnt about the importance of communication and being transparent and open about how you feel”.”
Even after repeated listens, it sounds fantastic. NEDA’s vocals speak with an assured tone that not only acknowledges made by the other individual but speaks the truth to firmly put them in their place. This open-book honesty gives you an insight into her thoughts, and really keeps the song grounded in amongst its larger than life instrumental. It also provides more depth than expected from this introduction. ‘Good Intentions’ is excellent, and I’m very excited to hear what NEDA releases next.
