Enfers – Come When They Call Labour / Debut EP

Enfers return with their debut EP Come When They Call Labour. It revolves around the journey that the band have had up until this point, featuring four songs that each come with their own distinct style. Ever since hearing ‘Waiting Rooms’ back in July, I’ve been proper excited to hear this and can confirm it has had repeated listens ever since its release.

Kicking things off in a big way is ‘Awake’. Guitars fill the room with huge melodies and basslines that bleed through the speakers. Bringing a big impact and flooding the ears with pure indie vibes, it wraps you up in its sound and gets you moving. What a great way to get started.

‘The Circuit’ follows with a tongue-in-cheek insight on the local music scene. As an avid goer of local gigs and supporter of local music (SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MUSIC SCENE), it’s funny to hear certain lines. “We’ve played this club too many times” and “never blowing the roof off” are quotes I’ve heard over the years, and its sad to hear that they’re typical lines that bands hear. Regardless of location. However, the song comes with jangling guitars and bouncing keys to keep things light-hearted and fun.

‘Waiting Rooms’ continues to hit just as hard now as when I heard it the first time. The watery guitars paired with the emotive vocals just sink into the mind so much, and the massive drums in the background makes it fill the room with its ambitious sound. It has such a classic, summery sound to it. God it’s good. It also falls nicely into ‘Heaven In A Wild Flower’ which ramps up the ambition with a massive vocal performance. There’s a musical quality to it that really works with the summery sound heard throughout the EP, and caps off what has been a superb listen.

Enfers have produced one of the strongest debuts of the year here. Come When They Call Labour is fantastic. I’m personally hoping to hear them dive deeper into their sound for future projects, and selfishly wishing for that to not take too long either.
