We caught up with the one-of-a-kind artist to find out more about his sound. Make sure to check out “There’s Somewhere Else” below.

  1. Hey Rediisin! Welcome to Dead Good. Can you talk to us more about your latest single “There’s Somewhere Else”?
Hi everyone! Super excited to talk about Theres Somewhere Else. It originally started as a simple guitar lick I couldn’t get out of my head.
  2. Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?
As I continued to work on There’s Somewhere Else, it became about this time I was at an alt club but still felt so out of place; I guess I outgrown this particular place that night. Interestingly, There Somewhere Else didn’t start as a story, but ended as one.
  3. Tell us about the recording and writing process?
When writing, I normally start with a few drum beats that work together and put together a song structure, then freestyle the bass, guitar, and vocal part. After all that I would revisit parts I like and develop the song. However, There’s Somewhere Else started as a guitar lick I liked, which then developed into a full song. It was my first fully composed song as opposed to free-styled.
  4. What was the idea behind the music video (love it by the way!)?
The video was originally supposed to be shot somewhere else but this building close to my place was just painted and based off of my clothing style, I knew I had to shoot there haha. The idea is just me vibing by myself, just like the time at the club. I dance like no one is in the room with me so the video stayed true to me.
  1. What’s the music scene like where you’re from? Has it influenced your sound?
I live just outside Toronto so you could say I’m in the GTA music scene while still entering the city. The scene is full of life and passion, there’s lot of musicians in many different genres around. It changed my sound because I wanted to be true to the music I like but stand out at the same time. I spent a lot of time trying things that are popular but never stuck with it because I wasn’t happy with the music. I also tried making music that was different for the sake of being different, that didn’t go too well haha. The people around me keep me going to find that sound that does it all for me.
  2. What artists are you currently listening to?
Right now, I’m really into IDLES, Viagra Boys, and B Boys, while also revisiting The Smiths. Added, I’m almost always listening to The Drums and Bloc Party.
  3. Describe your sound in three words.
    Tense, playful, and rhythm-driven.
  4. What is happening next in Rediisin’s world?
’m currently working on a new project with a different name, Rediisin is a close to heart project and I want to disconnect myself from the music for a little while. Putting my name next to my music puts pressure onto me I know I don’t need plus I want to open up with the people I work with. I’m sure my next steps are going to be bigger than ever.
  5. Finally, what’s your favourite fruit?
This is probably the toughest question of the interview haha… I’m going to go with the fruits I can always be in the mood for, green grapes or watermelon. Every time they’re in my house I do not stop.
