Barbara – ‘These New Communications’ / New Single

Here at Dead Good, we want to deliver you the FRESHEST of music, and this is pretty fresh. Barbara are a two-piece act based out of Hove (near Brighton, if you like your geography) and they only just started up in 2021! They released their debut single ‘BRB‘ back in January which you need to check out, but they’re back with something completely new with ‘These New Communications‘.

It’s clear from the first 30 seconds that Barbara have their musical heads screwed on, as their pop sensibilities are all there to see and it’s beautiful. The instrumentals of the track bright, funky and ridiculously catchy. The duo fully understand how to write a catchy hook, and make it sound genuine and not cheesy in the slightest. After listening to the chorus once or twice you can pretty much have the words down, with the line “Compromise is funny / full surrender on me / worship me and tell me I’m great” still floating around my mind.

It may come across as a slightly lazy comparison, but the duo do draw comparisons to MGMT. With the production of the song, along with the different musical elements introduced and twist on a pop track, it has the same ingredients but sounds completely different.

Considering this is only the bands second release, there’s still so much to discover from the act as they have a clear musical direct and execute it perfectly. For me, this track has arrived at just the right time with it’s upbeat nature and playfulness it will go nicely with a sunny day and a few beers on the grass – can’t wait to hear what’s next!
