London’s Balancing Act haven’t wasted any time since bursting onto the scene. Since their arrival, they’ve released two singles and have unleashed a third now – ‘A Little More Time’. The latest offers an alternative route to what we’ve heard so far and leads us to a great new destination.
As the song combats against the constant deadlines and limits we seem to have in our lives, it takes a step back to offer Balancing Act’s most mellowed sound so far. It dabbles with the aggressive world of post-punk still but eases a little bit to allow grooves to seep into the eardrums. The guitars are more muted but stab with anger, and the drums remain focused on pounding the skull, but they work well with frontman Kai Roberts’s vocals to create a soft(er) collision of noise throughout. There’s more of a steady tempo to it, and the basslines really thrive in the extra space they’re allowed to play in.
It’s great when a new band emerges and releases something that acts as a diversion from their usual sound. Opening up potential avenues to be explored. ‘A Little More Time’ is Balancing Act’s version of that but feels so much more complete that it’s way more than just a simple diversion. It shows us a different side to the band and one I hope they return to many times.
