Balancing Act return with ‘Cheshire Smile’. The London quartet have been steadily releasing hit after hit this year. Quietly building the hype and momentum that has got me feeling rather excited to hear – hopefully – something extensive from them soon.
While they’ve been delivering the spooky vibes so far, ‘Cheshire Smile’ heads towards a relatable route. Bringing humanity and personability to their sound that makes them feel a little more real. Don’t worry, the plinking keys heard throughout maintain the spookiness, but Balancing Act bring some proper grooves to the forefront too. Slightly off-kilter guitars lay down melodies that collide softly with pulsing basslines and rigid drums to create an instrumental that slowly envelops you.
The vocals lead the way, delivering heart strung lyrics that show Balancing Act at their most immediate. It works really well with their foundation, but the added sense of groove makes this their catchiest song to date. If this is an experiment then it has worked really well, and I hope they continue to offer more of this style in future.
