SUB*T – ‘Boxing Day’ / New Single

One of the best parts of being a music blogger is discovering new artists at the very start of their careers, and having the opportunity to go “HEY, THESE GUYS ARE REALLY COOL. YOU SHOULD CHECK ‘EM OUT.”. Not only does it satisfy the hipster in you for recommending a band before everybody else, but it also kickstarts a brand new obsession with a pretty great act.

Comprised of Jade Alcantara and Grace Bennett and after two years of learning instruments and writing music, emerging act SUB*T are ready to burst onto the scene with ‘Boxing Day’. Written about boxing things up and paying tribute to the past, this debut single is one that very much looks towards the future. No more being part of the crowd, it’s time to make the crowd. Fuck yeah.

“‘Boxing Day’ is a play on words in the sense that obviously Boxing Day is a holiday and that was our metaphor for packing up all this trauma and letting it go,” said Jade Alcantara, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of SUB*T. “Maybe not even letting it go, but just expressing it in a way that actually made us feel something different.”

With a steady drum beat and crunchy guitars, ‘Boxing Day’ sets off to dive straight into the ears with fuzz. It has a brightness to it that pierces through the sludge, sounding perfect for any coming-of-age film. The vocals talk about freedom and leaving behind the past throughout, which forces the instrumental to ramp up the volume as it drives the guitars right into the skull. Leaving an impression that’ll last forever. No wonder SUB*T decided on this song to be their debut. What a way to introduce yourselves.

SUB*T are really cool. You should check ‘em out.
