Following a year of standout performances at the BBC Radio 6 IVW tour, Latitude’s BBC Introducing stage and recording at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, Kindelan returns with a new single.
“Drowning The Killer” is her first release since the excellent you can reach me if you try EP in 2023. It details the complexities of a particular relationship that involves two people who are just as bad for each other as they are good, and illustrates how both contribute to their respective downfalls, while also being absolutely made for eachother. Kinda like poison meets poison, or me with Pizza.
As heard on the EP, the single is an alluring listen. It’s instrumental comprises of nylon guitar chords that bring a haunting atmosphere to the mix, which superbly fits it’s chaotic topic. The subtle contributions of piano rounds out the sound. Setting a soft foundation for Kindelan’s vocals. They lead the way with a combination of harmonies and stark lyrics to great effect. Revealing more of the push and pull nature of this relationship as it progresses, and the way it pairs up with the rushed tempo makes it wonderfully haunting.
This wasn’t what I expected to hear from Kindelan as her first song back, but “Drowning The Killer” is a great way to reintroduce yourself. It is visceral and reminds us of how good Kindelan is at crafting music, and sweeping you up in it. I’m so glad she’s back.
