THE NONE announce EP Care; release “On Automatic” // Review

Ahead of a string of live shows over the next few months, THE NONE have announced their upcoming EP CARE. Set to arrive on February 14th – happy valentine’s – it follows last year’s MATTER and also comes with the release of “On Automatic” – a song that absolutely slaps the taste out of your mouth.

The four-piece have all experienced life in bands of various genres (Bloc Party, Blue Ruth, Cassels, Frauds) but have come together to deliver one of the most visceral and in-your-face sounds around. “On Automatic” launches into a scathing guitar riff that immediately puts you on edge, and is met by pounding drums, deep-rooted bass notes and Kai Whyte’s vocals, which sound unhinged from the get go. All together it sounds heavy, intense and like it’s moments away from falling apart completely.

But before it crumbles, a moment of clarity emerges that sees the distortion and vocals subside. Allowing melodies to build momentum before once again launching into that clunky main riff. The result is something that is so distinctly ugly, it’s unlike anything we’ve heard before. What a way to ignite excitement for CARE. This is immense.
