After a five year pause, Luan Luan makes their triumphant return with ‘Nonsense’. The new single was one of the first to be written by the Spanish artist, and is also the first to come from their debut EP. Set to arrive later this year.
Written in a tumultuous time that included a toxic relationship as well as a move from Madrid to Brighton, the song has a lot to tell and does so in a way that brings vulnerability and vibrancy together. Known for colliding genres together, Luan showcases this ability by bringing Flamenco, Funk and Pop into the mix to create grooves that are infectious, and hard to resist. But as bright and catchy as it is instrumentally, the song tells a different story.
Lyrically, Luan details the emotions and experiences felt during the aforementioned relationship. Delivering lines such as “Are you gonna sing that song? Be that wrong?” and ‘’They’re fading away all these feelings, don’t you see it?’ to show the decline of the time together, as well as the fear and frustration they felt on a daily basis.
It’s heavy to hear, but Luan turns that pain into an undeniable dance number. ‘Nonsense’ has all the tools to catch the ears of the crowd, and has the depth to have them stick around. It’s superb, and I’m glad we have confirmation that we won’t have to wait a while for more music.
