The last year has felt like a decade, for obvious reasons. Days feel like a drag and every day feels the same. I have forgotten how to do most things that used to be considered normal, and involving other people. We are missing a lot of things and probably are now more appreciative of the small ones, like enjoying a carefree summer, enjoying a day out with no fear.
The Boy Least Likely To’s new single ‘Get Into The Summer‘ is not just a boost of happiness in the middle of all this but it’s also a reminder of all of these beautiful summer related things and feelings wrapped in optimism that we will have all of them again. Soon.
You’d easily recognize this as the work of duo Peter Hobbs and Jof Owen from the very beginning of this single from their significant happy combination of guitar and piano melodies. Just like their other songs, this also represents their talent of storytelling. Each of their songs is like a short story about “life things” that you can easily relate to. Whether it’s just a reminder for you to enjoy the small things in life in ‘When I Grow Up I Want to Be a Boy Again‘ or just being in love with someone who doesn’t even know you exists like in, well, ‘I’m in Love with a Girl Who Doesn’t Know I Exist’ (yes, you’re not alone).
Hold on to the same high expectations for ‘Get Into The Summer’ because this song is also going to tell you a story about one day in a beautiful summer, doing things that will help you get away from things, before having to go back the next day and deal with adult responsibilities (ugh).
As singer Jof Owen explains it, “We actually wrote the music and the chorus for this song years ago, before The Best Party Ever came out, but it just never seemed to be the right time for it. Then in January and February of this year as people began to talk hopefully about the world opening up again, the words in the chorus kept coming back to me, and the rest of it came really quickly. It felt like everyone was just bursting to get outside and enjoy themselves this Summer and it felt like the song was bursting to get out too.”
So if you’re still looking for some sort of theme song for your summer this year, or just to help you ignore the heatwave we are currently having, look no further because The Boy Least Likely To is here with one that’s worth putting in your list.
