My First Time are back with ‘Bodybag’. The Bristol outfit have enjoyed quite a bit of buzz lately, with last year’s ‘Man Of Ill Repute’ gaining tons of momentum and multiple live performances earning some props. It feels like the sky’s the limit for these lads, and this trajectory is accelerated by this new tune.
Written about the individuals that offer the world when a band gets started, My First Time bring their acerbic wit to the forefront. Bold promises and wild statements are repeated against an instrumental that’s in your face. As the character begins to buy into the dream and descend into their ever-increasing ego, it feels like the song surrounds your space and attempts to drag you along for the ride. Booming synths combine with fuzzy guitars to create that feeling of being too close to the speakers, but you don’t want to take a step back. It is so full on, and catchy.
“‘Body Bag’ is specifically about when you’re starting out as a band. You meet lots of people within the industry, and they tell you everything that you’re going to achieve. It’s like making a deal with the devil. That feeling of your dream maybe becoming a reality… and everything that comes with it.”
This is one of the most exhilarating singles we’ve heard this year. My First Time caught our ears back when they dropped their debut single, and have been responsible for some excellent singles since then. ‘Bodybag’ feels like it dials all of that up 100%. It is so abrasive and heavy, but is so addictive and enjoyable. What a banger. Can’t wait to hear what follows.
