After being raised on 80’s synth pop played at every family party, my affection that genre of music has never really died out. This made it all the more pleasing when Junomoon’s new track ‘Call a Doctor’ landed in the Dead Good Music email inbox.
The track opens up with these glittery synth keys and big hitting drums, making a very bright start to the the track – and from then I was in. This was the first track I’ve heard from the quintet, so I was quite shocked when I listened to their two previous tracks ‘Matador’ and ‘Please Just Go’, as they bare no resemblance to this latest instalment.
The hook on the track is really catchy with the chorus; “Call a doctor/call a doctor please”. It’s not to in your face, it’s quite subtle and laid back – something you might hear as a bed for someone driving down a highway with sunglasses on.
The band also went all in for the solo, a completely synthesized masterpiece, which goes surprisingly well with the guys dancing in the video. Credit to the whole production of the song, as sometimes it can come of cheap, but this has a shiny gloss to it.
Hopefully, this is the direction the band see themselves going as they’re quite clearly quite good at writing these types of pop songs – and I need to hear more!
