Luan Luan returns with new single ‘Would Be Better’ // Review

Luan Luan returns with new single ‘Would Be Better’. Having kicked off the summer with the excellent ‘Nonsense‘ in May, the Madrid-born, Brighton-based artist follows up with a tune that not only fleshes out their 2025 output, but bookends the season nicely.

Where ‘Nonsense’ gave us an introduction to Luan and their recently-ended toxic relationship, ‘Would Be Better’ showcases an optimistic mindset. Exposing inner thoughts while asking questions that look for a more joyous life. Just like its predecessor, this sequel utilises Luan’s trove of genres to create a sound that’s full of colour and unlike anything else we’ve heard this year. A roaring guitar solo tears through the airwaves, leading into an instrumental that’s steeped in Funk and Bossa Nova chords to make their way into the ears.

As catchy as it sounds, the single is full of contradictions. While sonically it houses a positive atmosphere, lyrically it sits in the past. As Luan’s cool vocals breeze past the layers, they reference the unhealthy dynamic that rooted this doomed relationship. Push and pull patterns are highlighted as “Would be better if I could feel your love, right inside my heart, just aching” detail how unforgiving it was to handle. A better mindset grows with the song however, as Luan mentions that there is a potential end in sight: “There’s not much time, I just want to make things right”.

It shows off how much Luan’s music has to offer. Much like ‘Nonsense’, ‘Would Be Better’ is a well-rounded listen that has it all. All the hooks to draw you in, but the depth to make you stick around. Luan has become one of our favourite discoveries of the year, and we’re excited to hear this upcoming EP of theirs. Set to release towards the end of 2025, so not long to go (thankfully).
