Leo Walrus returns with new single ‘What’s In Store’. The third release to come from upcoming album Moontime. We hopped on board the hype train on ‘Old Words, New Mess‘, which brought a throwback sound that hasn’t really left our ears since.
Much like the last single, ‘What’s In Store’ has all the tools to become an earworm. It’s light, acoustic-led sound makes it feel familiar from the start. The throwback sound working once again to satisfy everything you like about music. Leo’s vocals dance effortlessly atop the sound, gently directing it into its chorus which smooths out with easy-going harmonies, and a speak of the title adds an ominous touch to the mix – calling back to the conflict that existed on ‘Old Words, New Mess.’
Even with minimal instrumentation, Leo succeeds in bringing that sense of unease to the forefront. Though there are moments of hope heard “It’s not tomorrow yet”, I really like how sombre the song is. It captures how generally, we don’t know how reality will go, no matter how much time we spend thinking about it. Sometimes it goes good, and other times it doesn’t, but all we can do is go through it anyway. Leo Walrus provides something that can accompany us in this.
