Earlier this year, Glaswegian Alex Amor, released her debut EP Love Language, which I was extremely fond of. The EP had some great tracks on their, all equipped with Alex’s ‘too cool for school’ vocals and fantastic instrumentals. Seriously if you haven’t heard the EP, go and find it and thank me later! Then if you have chance, go and check out the bedroom tapes, as they’re brilliantly stripped down and performed well.
After a good EP, it’s easy to sit back and ride the momentum wave and rest on your laurels, waiting until next year to jump back in the studio. Well Alex has released more music, and we’re thankful. Her new track ‘dare you’ was released earlier this month (August 2021), and I never thought it was possible, but she’s got cooler.
‘dare you’ opens with Alex’s dreamy vocals daring you to do something, which sets the tone for the entire track. It’s laid back, breezy and effortlessly cool. The vocals and stylings could be likened to that of Lorde, but Alex has her own quirks which make her different.
This is perfect indie dream pop, Alex manages to create these big hooks and chorus’ which wouldn’t sound out of place on a Radio 1 playlist. Which also says a lot for the production, it’s crystal clear and is masterfully done so full credit there aswell. Finally, the instrumentals are well orchestrated and are used sparingly so Alex’s voice is the centrepiece, and it holds up so well.
Alex Amor is really one to watch this year, she’s nailed her sound and has a good selection of songs behind her. Cannot wait for her next project, and might even get to see her live now!
