Baudelaire, just two years into their career, have played sold out shows and supported the likes of Cabbage and The Crows. Following their first three singles, including ‘Prayers’ and ‘Lethe’ which earned them a place on This Feeling’s Best New Bands list, this post-punk six piece have released a new single: ‘Lose The Feeling’.
Taking inspiration from their bleak surroundings growing up in the Black Country, Baudelaire’s new track is carried on a dark, atmospheric synth and industrial drums. Admirers of Nine Inch Nails and IDLES themselves, you can tell this is who their music is made for. Gothic and gloomy with brain-itching grooves, ‘Lose The Feeling’ is another step in the right direction for the band.
Back in 2022 the band told Clout: “We’re striving to bring our own balance of aggression and introspection to the table.” With ‘Lose The Feeling’ this intention is clear. An animalistic baritone growls “I can feel your heartbeat/I will make your life bleak”, confronting listeners with the all-too-familiar twist of obsession and delusion. As the track progresses, a chaotic wall of noise is punctuated by a siren-like synth which feels almost like a warning that you will inevitably choose to ignore. Baudelaire has certainly succeeded in composing the perfect single to soundtrack bad decisions.
And where next for the group? Catch them in Portugal for Post Punk Strikes Back Again alongside headliners Grandmas House!
