BECAH – ‘Reminders’ / New Single

Northern Ireland-based indie artist, BECAH released her first single of 2021 earlier this month. ‘Reminders’ is the second single from her upcoming debut EP Freak, following the release of ‘Ghost’ last year.

BECAH wears her heart on her sleeve, putting her personal experiences and vulnerability out into the world through the medium of her lyrics – and the melancholic ‘Reminders’ is no exception. Telling the age-old tale of heartbreak after a toxic relationship, yet small reminders bring back memories, the track is one some of us can painfully relate to – “Somedays it hurts a little less/But I still get reminders/And I push them all away.” The lyrics explore trying to find yourself in the dark, doing anything to forget those intimate details of a past love and the ache of thinking the feeling will never go away.

On writing ‘Reminders’, BECAH said: “I wrote ‘Reminders’ in the aftermath of a very toxic relationship with a past girlfriend. The coinciding music video presents a glimpse into that story – the good times I had with her in the beginning, to its violent turn. The lyrics speak of the struggle I had to feel like myself again, and how all my attempts to push away all the little details and memories of that time felt futile.”

The blend of synth and indie/folk makes for a unique listening experience. Her soft, delicate vocals are complimented by the contrasting electronic guitars and synths, resulting in a hauntingly hypnotic soundscape. BECAH’s voice floats through the heaviness of the music and lyrics beautifully, making for an almost cinematic listen.

More single releases may be expected from BECAH, with her debut EP ‘Freak’ expected to be released later this year.
