Belot – The Good Life / EP Review

Coming October 20th is pop artist Belot’s newest EP. This EP was premiered as such by the dropping of new single, ‘the good life’ on September 6th. Belot has been described as an ‘awkward pop pioneer’ with her electronic pop sounds and fun beats, you’ll hear, this makes sense.

Starting the EP of strong is the track ‘Cool whip’ with it’s heavy electronic beat and unique sound. This song shows of Belot’s brilliant layering and lyrical attitude. Their music is a wonderful mix of the mainstream pop and slightly more alternative sounds. As you get into the song, the pace changes around a bit giving a new dance inducing and fun dimension to the music. It’s almost as if colour has been added to the song making it truly, an incredibly fun track.

Next up is the namesake of this EP, ‘The Good Life’, starting with a quick build up and another strong beat. Adding even more layers as the song goes on, the beats and paces are changing regularly, creating another exciting “get up and dance” type of track.

Following ‘The Good Life’ is ‘Ain’t it a shame’. This song begins slower and quieter than the other tracks, whilst maintaining an even more electronic feel before building up into its bold energy. ‘Ain’t it a Shame’ is full of the irregular heavy beats we’ve come to know well in her work. Belot has this remarkable attitude, especially lyrically that’s especially rare in newer artists, and whilst Belot has released music dating back to 2020, it’s still brilliant, and even at times refreshing, to hear; “Do you know how many records I’ve sold?”.

The next track in the EP is titled ‘Get This’. Beginning with Y2k video game vibes, Belot has this unique way of making her songs feel colourful. The EP is distinctive for its use of exciting and individual layers and this song certainly doesn’t disappoint. It’s an interesting mix of stereotypical club music with video game soundtracks and electronic mainstream pop. And although a bit repetitive you certainly can’t underestimate this song.

Ending this EP is one of my personal favourites, ‘V.I.P.’, bringing a new sound to the EP. ‘V.I.P’ holds nothing back, a truly brilliant way to end the EP. I have little more to say besides, Wow!

Overall, this EP is much more upbeat than some of the artists other works such as ‘familiar’ but this new energy seems to be working well for Belot. It’s an EP full of pure fun, it’s no wonder it’s gained so much support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, Spotify NMF UK and Fresh Finds amongst others. If you’d like to see her live, she’ll be supporting The Aces on their UK tour and much of their European tour. Coming out October 20th, this will be her third EP and it’s certainly not one to miss.
