better joy Releases New Single “Waiting on Time”; Announces Debut EP

better joy‘s Bria Keely looks to keep the momentum from last year going, with the release of new single “waiting on time” alongside an announcement of debut EP heading into blue, set to arrive on 28th March. We’re huge fans of the Manchester artist and even named her as one artist we’re especially looking to hearing more from this year, and this new tune solidifies that excitement.

Following in the footsteps of “what a day” and “carnival“, “waiting on time” emerges from their weary atmospheres but comes in strong with a more direct, optimistic sound. Its jangly guitars and cheerful melody combine to bring back the immediacy we enjoyed on “situations“.

Bria says, “waiting on time at its core is about going through mental challenges and losing yourself in the process, and the healing process that comes after. For me, it takes time to feel like myself again after I’ve gone through something difficult, and this one is just about the wait and the inevitability that I will find myself again.”

Written about both acknowledging the funk you’re in and the light at the end of it is another testament to how personal and relatable Bria’s lyrics are. Her autobiographical style makes it super easy to connect to her music, and the way in which those drums begin to rush towards the chorus really makes it one of her more anthemic songs to date.

The songs heard from heading into blue so far have been great, and really leaned into Bria’s Cure influence to convert what was a more immediate, urgent sound into one that allows their emotions to settle a little. “waiting on time” feels like it could be the centrepiece in which the EP revolves around, and could be a momentous bright spark in what’s already a dazzling discography.
