Better Joy – ‘Situations’ / New Single

BETTER JOY returns with ‘Situations’. The fourth single from the Manchester band is arguably their heaviest, featuring some of their most fast-paced and intense instrumentals yet. But as gritty as it is, there’s an apology that sits at the heart of it, bringing a nice slice of reflection into the mix. Once again combining upbeat melodies with dark-hearted lyricism that makes their music so enjoyable.

With an intro that sounds straight out of mid-2000s Indie golden age, ‘Situations’ pairs together the classic tropes of Indie with a modern flair that makes it fly by at a blistering pace. It sounds accessible from the get-go and introduces brief moments of respite, adding some atmosphere into the airwaves, and pausing for a second before ramping the energy back up again.

Bria Keely’s vocals and lyrics once again tell it as it is, documenting actions she took towards certain events in the past that upon reflection come from guilt and a wish to do things differently. It is open-hearted and shamelessly honest, which we’ve come to expect from Better Joy’s music. It is refreshing, and nice to hear such vulnerability combined with something as loud and hard-hitting as this.

‘Situations’ is a riot of the tune and one that definitely gets us hyped for Better Joy’s forthcoming EP. Everything they’ve released so far has been great, so we’re definitely going to be excited to hear this EP. No pressure, but it could be one of the best EPs we’ve heard in a long time.
