Blair Davie is an alt pop musician hailing from Scotland with their newest EP It’ll Be Lovely dropping September 13th. So, to prepare you for their upcoming EP, I got the pleasure of asking Davie a few questions.
How did you get involved in music itself? Davie began his love for music at a young age, “There was always music in my house growing up but I really fell in love with music when I was 6 years old, thanks to a wonderful guitar teacher I had who taught me for 7 years until he sadly passed away. He had such a deep love for playing guitar and sharing amazing songs with me. He was like my best friend and I’m forever grateful for the way he taught me to love music.”
Has your creative process changed over time? I ask this question often, because an artist’s creative process is clearly hugely important, and yet the answer ranges hugely each time. It’s what makes each artist individual, it’s what shines through in their art.
“I would say that the biggest thing that’s changed is my vulnerability and honesty in my songwriting. I used to be scared of sharing my real feelings and emotions and I’m so glad that I’ve grown out of that. I use vulnerability as my songwriting superpower now which is both terrifying and exhilarating but always worth it.”
What’s the process behind your music videos? “Up to this point, I’ve always just tried to keep my videos as organic as possible. I feel like the songs should tell you how they’d like to manifest themselves in video form. If I find myself overthinking about some crazy concept for a video, then I usually catch myself and strip it right back to basics.”
There’s a certain hazy feel to Davies videos (which you can find on YouTube), as if everything has been doused in glitter and light matching perfectly to the welcoming and comforting tone of his work.
Does your music on the whole have a specific message? “It’s all love! It’s self-acceptance and acceptance of others. I think it’s about embracing the vulnerable parts of ourselves and letting them shine!” And despite being heavy and intense this is a beautiful message to spread and something constantly apparent in Davies art.
Where do you get your overall inspiration from? “Usually from the darker things that have happened in my past and in times when I wasn’t able to open up with how I was really doing. I write a lot from that perspective because I feel like I owe it to my younger self who didn’t have the facility to process and heal from these things. But I also take a lot of inspiration from love and the beauty of life too. Finding a balance of the dark and the light really is the aim. Optimistic pessimism!”
This perspective is often clearly reflected in their tracks with a light of love shining over it all.
What inspired each of the songs in the upcoming EP? “They all come from a place of trying to figure things out but with love.There are some songs about my wonderful relationship and how long distance and life made things a beautiful challenge for us and also songs about the mental health battles I’ve been dealing with.”
How did you choose the songs for the EP? “It was quite tricky choosing just four songs because I write a lot of music! Ultimately, I just followed my wee heart and picked the songs that most affected me emotionally and also the four that I felt would work nicely together as a unit.”

Can you tell us some more about your upcoming tour? “I’m super excited to be supporting Corook on their UK tour this December! I supported them on their London show recently and they invited me to join the whole tour. I feel very grateful. I feel like the set is an emotional rollercoaster, some big highs with sing along moments and also crippling lows in the sad moments, I love that though.”
Do you have a favourite song to perform? “My favourite song to perform currently is my song Lovely. It’s super
uplifting and usually I’ll get the crowd to sing with me and I’m at my happiest in these moments.”
“Lovely” is a bouncy, fun track with a unique beat. Perfect for singing along to with a lyrically comforting tone.
Which was your favourite song to create? “My favourite song to create was my newest single ‘Found My Person’ because we wrote it as a piano ballad which was really fun but then I took it into the studio and turned it into a big fun pop song!!”
‘Found My Person’ starts off softer but builds up, full of emotion and that stunning love that Blair fills their work with. Well worth the listen!
