Bored at My Grandmas House – ‘How Do You See The World?’ / New Single

Bored at My Grandmas House returns with ‘How Do You See The World?’. The new single from the project of Amber Strawbridge is the third to come from her upcoming album Show & Tell. A debut album we’ve been quietly looking forward to hearing for some time now.

“HDYSTW is a song I wrote about humanity’s greed, ignorance and lack of accountability surrounding the state of the world we live in. It’s about how we as humans still prioritise material goods, wealth and power rather than sustainability within society – even when all the facts, stats and evidence highlighting our negative impact and its dangers are handed to us on a plate. It’s me questioning how big we really are in the grand scope of life and predicting mother nature’s rightful comeback.”

As easy as it is to fall down the rabbit hole of existentialism and how often it leads to needing some time shut away from all things outside, Amber’s brand of warm, jangly guitars brings levity to the new single’s heavy topic. While the drums don’t hit as hard as they do on former single ‘Show & Tell’, they do provide a nice groove that openly welcomes floaty melodies to come and join in. Creating a sound that’s not only perfect for its gorgeous music video, but also helps calm you down for the inevitability of impending doom.

But as comforting as it sounds, HDYSTW does feature distorted moments that sneak up on you. Its subtly helps it come from nowhere to launch into roaring verses that disrupt the song’s easy-going nature, serving as a reminder of the carelessness of actions taken against the world, and the lack of accountability we humans tend to have in favour of personal gain. It acts as a sobering moment and creates a strong contrast that makes us return to the song over and over again.

It’s mad to think that we haven’t featured Bored at My Grandmas House on the blog before, but this recent string of singles has been great, and really make us excited to hear Show & Tell. ‘HDYSTW?’ is superb.
