Since Carmen’s first official track released back in 2020 entitled ‘Slow Down’, I have always kept an ear out for their music. It was the soft vocals combined with this simplistic musicality which allowed Carmen to be centre stage, surrounded by these embellishments to support her performance.
Roll on three years to 2023 with a few releases in the middle, and here we are with Carmen’s latest release ‘The Space’. After listening, I’m happy to report that Carmen remains an accomplished songwriter with a fantastic voice. So natural and pure with little inflections or front, it wouldn’t surprise me if I met Carmen this is her normal voice. The acoustic guitar compliments her performance so well as it meshes together with ease. We are also treated to a subtle violin in parts to give it more depth and it works. What I like about it is that the violin isn’t plastered all over the song, it’s used sparingly in parts to great effect. Also have to give a mention to Carmen’s harmonies, which once again are used when needed but they just add just enough to lift the song.
This is a good start to 2023 for Carmen, and I can only hope that we hear more from her as it would truly be a treat!
