Released at the end of April but at the top of my radar list to check out, indie-rock singer-songwriter Chandra’s ‘Lighters To The Sky’ is a guitar-fuelled sing-along anthem that encourages people to be true to themselves and strive for their dreams.
The inspiration for the song came when Chandra realized that many people in his social circle were not receiving the support they deserved for their amazing accomplishments or journeys. In fact, some were being knocked down by negative comments. This realization led the artist to write a song that would uplift and inspire those who are pursuing something special to them.
In the song, Chandra emphasizes the importance of being supportive of others, as well as the impact that even a single positive comment can have on someone’s journey. The music video for “Lighters to the Sky” also highlights the idea that achieving something great doesn’t have to be something big, and that even small accomplishments are worth celebrating.
“I wanted to write a positive, uplifting antidote to the blues” says Chandra. “This is basically a love song to all the people who have a dream but are struggling… who know deep down inside what they want to do but can’t find the support they need to follow it through”, continues Chandra.
“It’s also as much about people recognising that they can help someone in spades just by being a little bit supportive. We all understand what it feels like to come together at a gig and hold our lighters or phones up to the sky… imagine if you could give someone that kind of support… how much of a lasting boost that might give someone.”
