DAY OF THE DOG – FAT DOG Live in Manchester // Live Review

Manchester’s Aviva Studios was thriving this Halloween, ready for Fat Dog’s very own Day of the Dog, featuring a five act line-up and a whole lot of chaos.

Just before though, we had Working Men’s Club who were the perfect penultimate act for the night; Syd Minsky-Sargeant’s magnetic stage presence pulled the warehouse in, and the psychedelic sonics curated by the five-piece created an electrifying atmosphere before the headliners took to the stage.

Fat Dog came out adorned in Scooby-Doo (and rightly so) costumes for the occasion and immediately set the energy for the rest of the night with ear-ringing reverb filling the warehouse. Members were already causing chaos by jumping into the similarly adorned crowd by the second song (which is recurring, frontman Love spending most of his night there).

Their high energy set included ‘Vigilante’, ‘King of the Slugs’, synth-heavy hit ‘Peace Song’, ‘Wither’ and live debut of upcoming track ‘Haunted House’.

It was filled with shattering guitars, blinding strobe lights and the upmost mix of instruments you could ever imagine. It was impressive, well-organised chaos

This is a band that blends, blurs and obliterates the lines of genres, which is directly translated into their live show spectacularly, making their performances unforgettable. The post-gig feeling can be pretty tiresome, but after Fat Dog, you’re left feeling buzzed and wanting more. Another side effect is a slightly melted brain,  post-chaos, but what a wonderful feeling!
