“Rainbow Family” is the new single from Dryadic. It’s their first since last year’s “Smiling in the Dark”, and looks to be the opposite to its predecessor too. While the former leaned on its heavy atmosphere, “Rainbow Family” shines a light on the resilience and vibrancy of misfits, chosen families and the LGBTQ+ community.
Laden in strings and harmony, Dryadic take us on a journey through an instrumental that utilises its folk roots to great effect. The stirring vocals of Zora McDonald combine with the weeping strings to deliver something that sounds other worldly, and quite striking as a result. It moves at its own pace, but has the weight to make an impact. Putting a stop to whatever you set out to do, and make you pay attention.
There’s an aura to it that draws you in, and makes you wish to replay it to hear more. “Rainbow Family” is a superb song. One I didn’t expect to hear and enjoy so much, but one I’ll certainly return to. Hoping we hear more from Dryadic soon.
