Indie trio Dutch Criminal Record have unveiled their EP ‘It’s Gonna Be Okay’. Featuring their 2021 single releases ‘Return To Dust’ and ‘Hey Charlie’, the 5-track offering is an illuminating collection of surf-pop infused indie gems.
‘It’s Gonna Be Okay’ opens with its thoughtful title track, easing the listener in with a gentle-pace, the track intensifies as layers of instrumentation are introduced under a compelling spoken word vocal delivery. Moving into the second track ‘Return To Dust’, we hear the more familiar and signature sounds of this indie-pop outfit. This sweet love song is accompanied by shimmering guitars and wistful vocals.
At the halfway point of the EP arrives the standout track ’00’s Nostalgia’. The song is carried by mischievous percussion and a swaying rhythm, complimented by glistening guitar that gives it its nostalgic vibe. We arrive at the most upbeat track of the EP next with ‘Hey Charlie’. Also the latest single from DCR, ‘Hey Charlie’ has an infectious melody, bursting with summer vibes. Inspired to write the track by a fan called Charlie who pre-saved a previous single, the track shows an inspiring and light-hearted side to the band which is hard to come across today.
Closing with the bittersweet ‘Living In Dreams’ we are reminded of the introspective side to DCR we hear at the beginning of the listening journey. This aptly named EP captures an optimistic tone and euphoric soundscapes that are truly original to Dutch Criminal Record.
