Sometimes, the start of a new year means discovering new artists who could potentially soundtrack the next twelve months. Elanor Moss is one of those artists. ‘Soundings’ is the debut single from the York-based artist and is the first to come from her upcoming EP which is called – wait for it – Citrus. I mean, it’s like destiny.
Driven with acoustic chords and accompanied by subtle additions of bass and synths, ‘Soundings’ is a song that eases its way into the mind to leave a strong impression. Instrumentally, it builds wonderfully and at a natural pace. What begins as a standard set of chords blooms into a spiralling world of melodies and harmonies that encapsulates the mind and captivates the soul. It’s beautiful and is brought into a level beyond that by Elanor’s vocals. Her voice sounds crystal clear as she offers lyrics surrounding substance abuse and depression, bringing a haunting element that mixes with the song’s otherwise playful nature.
‘Soundings’ is an eye-opening song that makes for a dark but compelling listen, and I can’t help but be blown away by it. To offer something so personal as an introduction is incredible and leaves me excited to hear more from Elanor Moss.
