Oh BOY is it time to dance to Flake’s new single ‘Charlie’. The latest tune from the Birmingham trio has got me feeling all kinds of ants in my pants and with a series of live shows to come, it seems I might not be the only one to get these much-welcomed pests. Somebody inform Archer that THESE are the ants you wanna get.
‘Charlie’ is nothing but a serious ear worm. Right from the start its wandering bassline heads straight for the hips and is backed up by a dazzling duo of snappy drums and guitars that wail their way through to the dancefloor. It’s rigid with groove but comes with the right amount of loose, allowing it to flow freely into becoming your latest obsession. The vocals are full of soul and lead the way for the guitars to deliver all sorts of bluesy licks and tricks to the mix, increasing the sheer catchiness of the track.
I can’t get enough. ‘Charlie’ is a superb song from Flake, one that’ll be on repeat for the rest of time. It hits the sweet spot of catchy and chaotic. Coming in strong with a bold instrumental that sounds exciting even after endless listens. What a tune.
