Garage Pop duo FLTY BRGR GRL are back with ‘Miserable’. The follow-up to last year’s ‘Red Dress’ is an in-your-face single that looks back on a failed relationship and firmly wishes the ex-partner a terrible rest of their life. Fair play really. It is rare that people end things on a good note, but in this case, there are a lot of good notes here.
In spite of its spiteful content, this new tune features a melody that immediately forges a connection with the brain. Light, sleepy and catchy – it sinks its teeth into an instrumental that is wonderfully lo-fi. The snappy drums and crunchy guitars bring a feelgood quality that makes things sound sweeter than they probably should be, as the vocals lead the way in wishing somebody a bad time.
‘Miserable’ is a quietly catchy tune that will envelop your mind. It is simple in execution but revels in its ability to catch you off guard. FLTY BRGR GRL have shown a lot of personality in their two singles – making me think that their upcoming album Happily Ever Never is gonna be a blast.
