Fruit Salad – June 2024

Welcome to this month’s Fruit Salad! The latest addition to our new series, where we get a bunch of artists involved to tell us about their favourite fruits, as well as their new music. Is it still the most nonsense thing we do? Probably. But it’s the best kind of nonsense.

Before we move on everybody’s answers and new music, here’s a list of fruits that are in season in June:

  • Apricots
  • Blackcurrants
  • Cherries
  • Elderflower
  • Gooseberries
  • Nectarines
  • Raspberries
  • Rhubarb
  • Strawberries

You can check out all of the artists and their music featured in the series on our Fruit Salad 2024 playlist on Spotify. And if that’s not enough, there’s also the ULTIMATE FRUIT LEAGUE to check out to see which fruit is best. Anyways, it’s time to dig in! ENJOY!

AnalogueTrash: “I’m a banana guy, myself.”

To get the favourite fruit of an entire record label is pretty cool. AnalogueTrash are an independent label, promoter and new music blog that specialises in post-punk, indie/alternative, electronica and leftfield pop. They released new music on each Friday in June, and they like Bananas.

You can check out their latest releases here.

Carl Yeung: “My favourite fruit is Mango! In any form really, but not sure anything quite beats a mango ice cream on a hot sunny day.”

Carl released his new single ‘Bad Taxi’ on the 14th. Only his second single, following on from 2022’s ‘Forty Long Days’.

Ghost Fan Club: “Grapes. Specifically Purple.”

After some time way, Ghost Fan Club returned to our ears this year with a series of new singles. The latest of which being ‘Now And Then’. There are noises of a self-titled EP being released next month, via Knifepunch Records.

Goodbye Wudaokou: “I’ll go with Kiwi

The Manchester artist released his debut album Mirror Skies earlier this month. It is a collection of lo-fi tunes that surround the world of Shoegaze, with little hints of Indie Pop and Dream Pop thrown in too.

Jack Hyphen: “Tricky question, but I’m gonna for a tomato”

Out today, Jack Hyphen released his new single ‘Not Medicinal’. A sprawling, fuzzy tune that is very catchy.

Jude Forsey: “Pink Lady apples.”

Jude released their new single ‘poison’ on 14th June. His second single of the year.

Lexie Carroll: “strawberries- basic but you can’t go wrong. favourite food ever is toast with strawberries and peanut butter.”

Lexie Carroll released her wonderful new EP you look lovely when you’re living last week. It is an EP we enjoyed very much – you can check out her full review of it here.

LIT. MAJOR: “Sweet, cold, juicy Watermelon.”

LIT. MAJOR released their new single ‘Friend/Lover’ earlier this month. A new album is set to be released in August.

Lotusbliss: “We all separately hold mango high as our favourite fruit. Beautiful on its own when juicy and ripe and beautiful in a salad whilst unripe, mango always brings a wonderful balance of sweet, tangy and floral. The fact that we all are in agreement means 1) it is the indisputable king of fruits and 2) we are riding the same cohesive mental wavelength whether we are eating fruit or making music. To finish, here is a haiku about mangoes:

Delighting the tongue/Sweetest nectar of the gods/Mango, our true hero

Certainly up there with the best answer yet, Lotusbliss also released a mini-LP in the form of Deafening and Silent.

Minimums: “Has to be blackberries or pink grapefruit for me!”

Minimums is spoiling us today, with the release of a new single in ‘Memory’, two remixes and a video all coming at us.

Olivia Micelli: “Got to say Mango I think!”

Olivia has released her new single ‘The Chaos of Growing Up’.

Playing Dead!: “Peaches, Mangoes and Oranges!!”

Kansas City-based duo Playing Dead! Released their debut single ‘Guided Tour Of Ground Zero’ this month. It is the first of what to expect from upcoming album Jaws. Set for release later this year.

Rebecca Lappa: “My favourite fruit is pineapple. It reminds me of summer, and the tropical beaches that I hope to spend lots of time on once I am retired. It goes well with lots of foods and drinks. I love pina coladas. I tried them for the first time in Mexico when I went with my family. Pineapples have something that makes me want to dance when I eat them. They remind me of a never ending party.

Rebecca released her new single ‘Underneath Me’, and the video to it is out now. You can check it out right here, as a brief palate cleanser from all the fruit.

Roisin O’Hagan: “Strawberry.”

Essex songwriter Roisin O’Hagan recently released her new single ‘Midnight Indigo’ this month. The track is an angsty, gutsy listen full of guitars as it details the toxic dynamic between two people.

Sherayah: “When it comes to my favorite fruit, I have to say lemon. Answering the age-old question, yes, lemon is indeed a fruit! It’s not just my last name, Limon, but it’s also incredibly versatile—think lemonade, lemon roast chicken, lemon cake… now I’m hungry just thinking about it!”

Today, alternative folk-pop artist Sherayah releases her new single ‘Where the Flowers Don’t Grow’. Taking influences from the likes of Lord Huron, Kacey Musgraves and Maggie Rogers, this pleasant, delightful tune is one that’s sure to make its way onto your summer playlists.

Stella Santana: “Raspberry because they’re delicious and also it’s spelled in a cool way :)”

Stella released her new single ‘Easier’ last week. The latest from her upcoming EP Twelve Feet High, set to be dropped on July 25th. The single is a brooding, groovy listen that bares all sorts of cool vibes, making whoever listens feel ten times cooler than they did before.

Uncle Rusty’s Pocket Sand: “Kiwi fruit.”

A little bit scared to discover what pocket sand is, but Uncle Rusty dropped a new single called ‘Minimum Wage (Give Me Money)’ earlier this month.

Wax Owls: “Kiwi, perfect balance of tart and the slightly crunchy seeds = great mouth feel.”

Wax Owls release their new single ‘Freckle’ today. The song is a beautiful alt-folk tune that harnesses the power of harmonies to create some special choral moments against lush acoustic strings.

Thank you to everybody who took part in this month’s Fruit Salad. If you’re an artist releasing music in a future month, feel free to get in touch with us on Twitter so that you, and your favourite fruit, could feature in another Fruit Salad.
