FUR – ‘Anybody Else But Me’ / New Single

FUR are a fresh lick of paint to rock and roll as we know it. In their formative years the band have developed a distinctive charm, which will no doubt play a huge part in their debut album When You Walk Away – set for release on 5th November. In many ways, this will be a coming of age record – firmly setting the tone of who they are not only through reflection, but pointing towards the future.

Latest single ‘Anybody Else But Me’ sees FUR draw on inspirations from The Cure’s poppier side, exploring difficulties of self identification while serving a straight up indie bop. The band certainly take that pop rock element in their stride, creating something that is comfortingly familiar, while absolutely their own.

With lyrics like  I just wanna be like others / I don’t wanna feel like this”, the song could well take a downward spiral into a pit of self deprecation. However, FUR’s musicality in this track adds a different dimension. With a sprightly melody, bustling rhythm and vibrant vocals, the tone shifts more to accepting oneself rather than dwelling in discomfort. A simple yet finely tuned dynamic of tapping into feelings of past and present, and projecting that inner peace. This results in something that is not only brutally honest, but catchy and fun – a hit that is both validating and full of hope.
