Gritter – ‘Goth Night’ / New Single

Slap on some makeup and declare yourself in a new phase, and you’ve got yourself a repressed memory of mine (and my Dad’s), but you also have ‘Goth Night’ from Gritter. The US trio (featuring friend of the blog, and the last blog, and the one before that – Howlie) launched their noise late last year with Gritter’s First Gig EP and now look to follow up with a suitably spooky number for this equally spooky season.

Loaded with riffs and illustrated with The Cure’s best intentions, ‘Goth Night’ is a hard-hitting foray into a man’s descent into preparing for a night of all black everything and socially anxious sensibilities. Gritty guitar riffs are thrown through a Weezer filter to fill the room with a throwback sound, with a rhythm section that feels on the edge of falling apart in the best way. Vocally they strain and struggle to remain heard, but that only makes it all the more exciting.

Whether or not this is a parody, ‘Goth Night’ is a superb listen that’s packed with chaotic instruments, delivering all sorts of riffs and moments that will have you wishing for more. Gritter have fired on all cylinders here, and it makes me wish to don the eyeshadow again. I’m sorry, Dad.
