Halfloves – ‘Do U Follow Me?’ / New Single

After releasing their B-side EP Otherloves last April, Iowa City’s Halfloves have returned with an explosive single. The five-piece pop rock band didn’t disappoint with the release of ‘Do U Follow Me?’ They created an ever intricate synth instrumentation and mixed it with a good amount of angst to rock with. Nate Cooper’s funky bassline at the beginning will definitely reel in the attention of anyone who listens. Afterwards, the harmony between the different instruments and the vocals will surely keep you enticed.

With Lucas Adolphson’s playful guitar shredding, Trevor Polk’s quirky use of the keyboard, Noel Nissen’s taunting drum beats, and Jeff Roalson’s ever rocking vocals.‘Do U Follow Me?’ is by far the most experimental song they have ever produced — and we’re loving it. Halfloves’ fearlessness to go out of their way to create this funky, upbeat, yet edgy rock sound makes them stand out from the rest of Iowa City’s rock scene.

As soon as I started listening to the track, I immediately knew that I was in for a treat. Since I’m a sucker for heavy basslines, I found the way they guided the song through its entirety very amusing.  Also, the heavy build-up on the bridge makes me really miss the pre-pandemic live music scene, where you can actually feel the drums beating so loudly.

Overall, Halfloves really hit the nail on the head with ‘Do U Follow Me?’ It has definitely become my go-to jam this summer. It’s certainly refreshing to hear something as bold as this from our favorite Iowa City rock band.
