After the release of her previous track ‘365 Days’ back in February, Hera Lind is back with a follow-up with ‘Hungry Lion’. The Icelandic singer/songwriter has found success on TikTok, and is now starting to bring that success through into her music.
With this being the first time listening to Hera, I wasn’t too sure what to expect, but after the first chorus I was all in. The song explores the search for inner peace and trying to feel whole again after escaping certain toxicities in life. This is story is told quite well in the song, with the hungry lion being the toxicities in life and needing to get away to find that inner peace.
Also really enjoyed the musicality of the track, at first we’re met with this heavily distorted guitar offering a good contrast to Hera’s soft vocal overlay. As we break into the bridge/chorus we change tact slightly as the guitars fade out and it’s centred around keys and drums. It’s a nice transition and a sign that Hera is happy to utilize multiple arrangements in her songs.
It’s a great addition to her early repertoire and something she can quickly build on. Hera has a clear direction of where she wants her music to go, and it shows in her first two songs – very excited to hear what’s coming up next.
