Friend of the blog and actual Dad of mine Holly Rees returns with a rework of ‘Missing Out (Again)’. The Newcastle artist harnesses her shift from solo artist into full blown band by bringing everybody on board for a noisier version of its acoustic original, which was first heard on 2018’s Slow Down EP.
Hailed as a fan favourite, this updated version brings all that lovely live energy into the studio. Slipping straight into the earworm-y guitar riff boosted with some lo-fi crunch, the song quickly ramps up the volume and sinks into the mind. The added distortion really adds to the fiery lyrics, which cut through the instrumental with all of the hooks in place.
It’s a great tweak to a song that continues to be a blast. While the original felt more emotive, ‘Missing Out (Again)’, like all good sequels, sounds bigger and better, and hopefully kicks off to more full band noise from Holly Rees in future.
