John Christopher – “Memories” // New Dead Good Music

24-year-old Glasweigan artist John Christopher has returned with the release of his second single, ‘Memories’.

We’ve been waiting patiently for new music from John since the release of his debut ‘Springtime in October’ in May, and thankfully the wait is finally over.

John’s latest offering was recorded by Arran Black at Starla Recordings. The single evokes nostalgia from the offset; from the first few seconds of hearing the noise from the children playing outside, to the sentimental lyricism about looking back too much, ‘Memories’ is a true ode to the past.

John’s voice is melodic as ever, taking the spotlight over softly strummed acoustic guitar creating an intimate and melancholic feel to the track’s soundscape. There are some nice shoegaze riffs round the halfway mark that add to the overall dreamlike quality of the song.

John Christopher commented: “One of the things I remember most about recording this song was that two boys were playing outside. It was the owner of the studio’s son and his wee pal. We decided to record the ambience of them pottering about and put it in the song.”

‘Memories’ is a track that reflects on the passage of time, old relationships and sentimentality. Sombre, but beautiful, nonetheless.
