John E Vistic – Humanz are Bastardz / EP Review

Dropping 10th of November is rock artist John E Vistic’s latest EP, Humanz are Bastardz. The EP will be joining 2 albums and a multitude of singles in Vistic’s discography.

Starting the EP of is ‘Crime & punishment’ with a classic rock style opening and an impressive use of instruments. It’s a song that grows on you with each element it brings in, all of which work incredibly together. As the song goes on, we hear echoey sounds in the middle adding another interesting element alongside the brilliant guitar solos. There’s clearly talent in this band, it’s a genuinely good start to the EP, expressing Vistic’s style, this track is certainly for fans of heavy classic rock.

Following ‘Crime & Punishment’ is ‘Gunz Germz & Steal!’. Initially I was unsure about the opening, that being said, the song quickly becomes more interesting and fun. And as shown in ‘Crime & Punishment’ the instruments certainly don’t disappoint! Once again, the guitar is definitely something to focus on throughout this track. The song successfully plays with pace as it goes on which adds an exciting element to the music.

The penultimate song to ‘Humanz are Bastardz’ is titled, ‘To Every Purpose Under Heaven’. With the most captivating opening so far, this is a slower track with slightly punk gothic elements mixed into their rock sound. This track was almost immediately my favourite of the EP with strong beats don’t diminish despite this slower pace and lyrics in this track. With lines like, “heaven knows I’ve tried to fit in”, this particular song feels more emotive and personal, which is a wonderful side to hear, adding an interesting dynamic between the song and the listener. ‘To Every Purpose Under Heaven’ shows of another side of the artist. We’re graced with another impressive guitar solo, which seems to be signature for their songs (I should note that Vistic is also a guitarist, so this certainly makes sense). This song is a wonderful addition to the EP, in tone and skill.

Finally, the EP’s namesake, ‘Humanz are Bastardz’ provides a strong opening to the final song, immediately bringing in the heavy beats and bold instrumentals. Highlighting a heavy goth rock sound at the start, the track then both builds up and slows down in speed, successfully playing with pace, more than any of the other songs on this EP. The lyrics are simple but that’s not necessarily a bad thing in this case. ‘Humanz are Bastardz’ is a strong ending to the EP, that’s for sure.

Humanz are Bastardz, the EP, is full of impressive musical talent, slightly nostalgic sounds and a style that truly grows on you. Make sure to look out for this EP come November 10th!
