Hot off the trail of touring the US with All Time Low and releasing her debut album Garageband Superstar last year, Lauran Hibberd returns with ‘Honda Civic’. The IOW artist is really hitting her stride these days. Planting her brand of throwing firm middle fingers against the worst kind of people.
Loaded with riffs and highly relatable references, ‘Honda Civic’ feels like a real return to form. The Weezer-heavy levels of distortion on the guitars harnesses the old school aesthetic heard on Garageband Superstar, but the sheer power behind the drums helps it not feel stuck in the past. It sounds refreshed and ready to become an earworm for the summer. The melodies chasing the vocals on the chorus make it tear through the airwaves and sink right into our earholes. What’s that I hear? an instant hit. NICE.
As always, Lauran does a great job illustrating the people she talks about. Slipknot T-shirt wearing egomaniacs better watch out. ‘Honda Civic’ is a superb song that kickstarts another wave of excitement for more Lauran Hibberd. It already has the energy of being a great live staple and could be an anthem for the festival circuit this year.
