Not sure what it is about 2021, but perhaps lockdown has unearthed a lot of new creatives especially musicians. We have yet another debut to share with you, from seriously talented duo lilo, a folk-pop duo from London. I’m already a huge fan of folk-pop from the likes of Sunflower Thieves to Hunger Moon, so I was confident lilo’s debut track ‘Change’ was going to leave a lasting mark.
‘Change’ is a soft and delicate track made of an acoustic guitar, a piano and wonderous vocals from lifelong friends Christie Gardner and Helen Dixon. It’s quite clear after the first listen that the chemistry is already there, as their voices intertwine for a calming effect.
The song tackles “The experience of knowing that something that you want might not be what is best for you. It’s about pushing your boundaries just to find that you’ve pushed them too far.” the duo explain. This comes through in the lyrics, it’s so well paced and put together.
The song comes to a slight abrupt end which I really enjoyed, as if it slips away before you knew, as you were expecting another chorus. This just made hit the play button again and revisit the track, which I’ll probably do again. As for all the tracks I cover on here, I loved it and hopefully have the pleasure oh hearing it performed live soon. You can never have enough talented folk-pop duos, and I’m glad lilo are part of that club.
