‘KEEP YOU RIGHT’ is the second single from look terrified. In a previous life, they were known as Motel Carnation but kick off this year with a new name, new look and a new way to get me feeling nice in the insides. Those Butterflies be boppin’, I swear.
Aiming to deliver something that “will have you shaking your hips and scratching your head”, look terrified certainly know how to make something exciting. ‘KEEP YOU RIGHT’ kicks off at a blistering pace, with guitars determined to drill into your skull. Creating enough space that allows the embedded melodies and hooks to burrow deep into the mind and leave you hooked. Maybe even deep enough to see those Butterflies. Alright lads?
Detailing the struggle of battling both an internal and external battle, ‘KEEP YOU RIGHT’ does an excellent job at illustrating the instability that comes with trying to control one’s emotions while receiving a barrage of well-intentioned-but-no-need-to-mention calls to do so. It sounds so gritty and always on edge, as if it could erupt at any moment. But its with this tension that the song becomes such a thrill.
This new era of Conor and Austin looks set up to be their most explosive yet. ‘KEEP YOU RIGHT’ is a fantastic song. Following from the equally impressive debut ‘FRIENDLY FIRE’ by essentially ramping everything up tenfold, the duo has really nailed their introductions here. With the duo promising to deliver new music every 6 weeks in 2024, the wait isn’t long for what’s to come, but I already feel restless wanting more.
