Media Giant – ‘Afraid Of The Dark’ / Debut Single

Introducing Media Giant and their debut single ‘Afraid Of The Dark’. All we know of this trio so far is that they’re London-based and are afraid of the dark. Quality journalism I know, but we do have a statement from Media Giant HQ:

“At Media Giant, we care about you – that’s why we’ve used extensive market research and scientific analysis to determine what makes a hit. ‘Afraid of the Dark’ is our initial offering, and our studies suggest you will enjoy it’s driving, danceable rhythm and relatable lyrical content.”

Having listened to the single a billion times, I can confirm that they do indeed know how to make a hit. Their market research paid off in a big way. Ominous guitars bring riffs that creep into existence, making their way through the mind slowly to set up some earworm hotels inside. The glittering drums bring a steady rhythm to the track, setting a solid foundation for the trio to take off in a million different directions. I get major Talking Heads vibes from it, as there’s something quite existential about it. The vocals have a sense of dread to them that further solidifies this.

‘Afraid Of The Dark’ is an infectious deep dive into the strange. Fraying at the corners and losing its mind ever so slightly, it is a superb introduction from a new act that promises to deliver much more of this good stuff. I’m very excited to hear more statements from Media Giant soon.
