Pizza Crunch – ‘Motivational Substances’ / New Single

In their new single, “Motivational Substances”, Glasgow Indie band Pizza Crunch serves us a Strokes-meets-Echo and the Bunnymen flow with a side of modern punk, just released on November 19.

The song is glum as it is upbeat, which can be conveniently recapped by the lyric, “I’d like to spend the night just once without a motivational substance.” The mismatched tune and lyrics are reminiscent of The Smiths’ melancholy albums with just a touch of head-bopping pop, giving the song a retro vibe that is eminently sought after these days. The track includes melodic guitar riffs, a near-baritone opening verse, and the ever so stylish lyrics of calling people out on their bullshit that gives heart and excitement to the 3 minutes you spend with the band.

You might be wondering where the name Pizza Crunch came from. In late-2019, when the band was just beginning, they were preparing to play a show and put up an Instagram poll to choose their best option. They were looking for a name that really stood out, and to be honest, it seems to be working for them.

“Motivational Substances” is available on all streaming platforms now.
