Pizza Crunch made a brilliant return on Friday with a brand new single titled ‘Romanticised Past’ marking their fourth single of the year so far. The fourpiece are well established names in the Glasgow indie scene and with their debut EP ‘The Serene Age’ set for release in four weeks’ time and an upcoming show at the famous King Tuts it seems this is only the beginning.
The new track manages to encapsulate everything that’s great about Pizza Crunch in a two-and-a-half-minute single; unrelenting guitars, deep snarling vocals and a driving rhythm section make for a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience. Lyrically the track is very poetic and sentimental, it reminisces and reflects on the past asking if the memories we hold so dearly are really as special as we remember.
Lyricist Ewan Hearns commented: “I think Romanticised Past was probably the first song on the EP to fully materialise. Nathan sent through the guitar parts and I had the lyrics down pretty quick. I remember sitting in my flat and looking at the photos my girlfriend had on a section of our wall of us and people we barely see anymore. I think as humans we tend to put the past on some pedestal even when the past wasn’t too kind to us. We also recorded this one at home instead of in the studio which allowed for a lot more freedom with the backing vocals and guitar layering.”
