Rayowa – Believe / EP Review

Rayowa return with new EP, Believe. It comes two years after the release of the trio’s debut Keepin’ Me Under and looks to expand on the sounds discovered on its predecessor. It delivers a late but needed dose of sunshine in these colder days.

Complete with four songs that take the best of Funk, RnB and Disco and fuses them together, Believe is an EP that offers a very assured listen with numerous messages designed to empower the listener to keep doing what they’re doing. “The four tunes on this EP collectively encompass the message of keeping the faith, regardless of how difficult the circumstances you find yourself in are, and so it felt natural for the EP to be named ‘Believe”.

‘Good Life’ kicks things off to signify this joyous, uplifting sound in a big way. Sunkissed keys are met with two-stepping guitars, flooding the ears with good times. Basslines team up with drums as they bubble out of the thick layers of sound, adding extra grooves to the mix, and a wide array of vocals surrounds the entire instrumental to bring it to the next level. I haven’t heard anything sound this good in a long time. What a great way to get started.

The title track follows with an equally huge performance. Harmonious strings soar across the airwaves, riding alongside the vocals that seem to direct the song into its biggest moments. The harmonies in particular do a great job at hooking you in. Somehow making this already accessible sound even catchier. It leaves you wanting more, and this is rewarded by the slightly subdued ‘Searchin’’, which allows the bass to shine a little brighter.

Believe is a great listen and an EP that’s sure to be played throughout the rest of the year. It offers great instrumentals you’ll never tire of, and is packed with positive, reaffirming statements throughout. You cannot do wrong playing it every single day, especially as we head into the winter. Rayowa have done a great job, and certainly made a fan out of me.
