Red Rum Club named as ambassadors of Bootle’s Salt and Tar

This week is independent venue week in the UK, and what better way to celebrate than with the news that everyone’s favourite Scouse six-piece have been named as ambassadors of a brand-new outdoor venue in Liverpool.

Red Rum Club have been among the biggest names on the Liverpool music scene for years. They are known for their exhilarating live shows and a unique indie pop sound that is elevated by the addition of a brass section, a sound fans have come to know and love over the years.

Now, as ambassadors of Bootle’s new 3,000 capacity outdoor music and events space, Red Rum Club will boost the venue’s profile and play special events. Tom Jones and The Lathums have already been announced as the next names to play the venue.

Red Rum Club front man Francis Doran commented: “Salt and Tar is such an exciting project to be a part of. It’s aimed at bringing together people through art, culture and music, which is deep within the ethos of Red Rum Club. The venue, like a red Rum Club Gig, is a place where everyone is welcome to come, have a good time and take in new experiences together.”

Sefton Council is hoping to increase the events space to hold 8,000 people. The venue will bring thousands of visitors to Bootle, boosting the economy and breathing new life into the area.

The news comes at a time where local venues are struggling more than ever. Music Venue Trust announced the loss of 125 grassroots venues in 2023 alone, so any news going against national trends is welcomed.

Cllr Marion Atkinson commented: “We were delighted that Red Rum Club headlined our Salt and Tar inaugural music festival in July 2023. We are also very grateful to Red Rum Club for their support to date, and it was an extension of this growing relationship which led us to consider partnering to help grow the music scene locally.

“In their ambassadorial role, we hope there will be many mutual benefits to this collaboration. Salt and Tar is the start of an exciting regeneration programme for Bootle town centre, with music and events at its heart. And the promotion of Red Rum Club as they launch their new album, and the opportunity to work together creatively, is such a truly unique opportunity.”
