When on the hunt for some new music, sometimes you get caught in a bit of a cycle. Where a lot of tracks don’t sound too indifferent. So when something comes across, which is completely left field – it catches your eye, well ear in this case.
I would like to introduce you to Birmingham funk act Sebastian. As soon as ‘I Heard a Rumour’ came on, I was gripped. With the bombastic drum beat along with a seriously funky guitar, your taken back to dancefloor in the 80’s. Sebastian channels their inner Prince and delivers something completely different to what’s being released currently.
The catchy guitar hook is simple as it should be, because it’s catchy there’s no need for it to be too complex. Just something you could move your hips to. The same can’t be said for the solo. The powerful exuberant guitar solo is unleashed around the 3 minute mark and is certainly moulded around Prince’s unique solo performances on songs.
One thing that could be improved on the track, would perhaps be the production. All of the ingredients are there. However, sometimes the transitions and instrumentals come in a bit a sharp and would benefit from some finessing. Overall though, the track should definitely catch some attention purely for how different it is. Will be keeping an eye out for Sebastian and their latest releases for sure. With so much promise coming off ‘I Heard a Rumour’, there worth looking out for.
