The weather is cooling, the trees are shedding their green leaves, and the ground is turning vibrant shades of red and orange. September has somehow slipped away from us, but that’s okay though, Silverbacks have released a shimmering love song to soundtrack your Autumn.
Silverbacks are an indie-rock sixpiece hailing from Dublin. Their latest single ‘Giving Away An Inch Of’ follows recent releases ‘Selling Shovels’ and ‘Something I Know’, all taken from their upcoming Easy Being a Winner EP which is set for release on October 18th.
Their latest offering is an infectious blend of divine vocals, groovy bass and light drums that keep everything in time. The angelic Gilmore Girls-esque la la la’s deliver autumnal energy and are so addictive, you’ll have the track on repeat after your first listen. Oh, and there’s a lovely guitar solo at the 2-minuite mark, what’s not to like?
Lyrically the track is more emotive than the gorgeous soundscape lets on; the words tell the story of a failing relationship where one person is giving so much of themself, but the other is barely trying. The vocalist pleads “don’t you think I deserve something better than an inch of?” with delicate yearning.
Kilian O’Kelly says of the track: “This one is a love song and mostly about the balance of relationships. The main idea was that one of the lovers was going to be pleading for a little bit more compromise from their other half. I wanted to have lots of ties to nature too and I think Nick Cave’s version of “nature boy” played a part there. Emma and I now have a garden in Drogheda, and with it has come a newfound interest in plants! Red hot pokers are probably one of our favourites. I always like it when human emotions are conveyed by the natural world. The delivery of red hot pokers coming out of the chorus is inspired by Elvis’s “Poke-Salad-Annie” performance in Vegas.”
