Sister Lucy returns with new single ‘Big Kid’. It follows the London-based artist’s debut ‘Dream’ and sticks to the theme of the scary world of growing up. It is also the foundation behind Lucy’s upcoming EP, Big Girl Pants, which is set for release next month. As a man-child heading towards his 30s at an alarming rate I wish would slow down, this project could prove to be very relatable.
Filled with crunchy guitar chords and wandering harmonies, ‘Big Kid’ is a song that’s perfect for these autumn months. It would be the perfect accompaniment to walking bleary-eyed down the street in your morning commute as the excitement falls faster than the leaves on the trees. Its tempo allows for the rhythm to slip into your head with ease, while Lucy’s vocals lead the way. Lyrics detailing the innocence of adolescence flow between the layers wonderfully, showcasing a sadness in losing that childlike wonder as you grow. It makes for great listening and makes the song so easy to connect to.
‘Big Kid’ is a great song from Sister Lucy. It builds on the introduction left by ‘Dream’ and continues to tell the story of Big Girl Pants. I am excited to hear the EP and also to see how much further this theme goes too.
